Have Courage: Lion Inspiration from The Wizard of Oz

The Faux Fur Jacket – Stylish and On Trend

My mantra for 2019 is to have courage and be kind. One of the most beloved characters from Frank Baums’s Wizard of Oz is the cowardly lion whose journey with Dorothy, Tin Man and Scarecrow led him to the Wizard to ask for courage. I love how he journeys from acting like a coward to actually owning being brave for the people he loves.

The faux fur jacket is in homage to the lion along with the lion themed cross-body canteen purse from Michael Michael Kors. I love the trend of the faux fur and synthetic leather jackets but found that the arm length and bulk overwhelmed my petite frame. Alterations were not an option because of the fur. I am so glad that I found the Frankie Faux Fur Bomber Jacket by ASTR in the color spice runs small in the arm length which is perfect for petites along with the cropped length. It has a hidden zipper and two pockets to complete the luxurious soft look to make you fell like a Queen.

Underneath the faux fur jacket is a t-shirt body suit from Guess with a custom silk screen lion design and black Joni jeans from Topshop. The Joni jeans are high-waisted which visually elongates your body. I accessorized it with the Topshop Lion Head Chain & Faux Leather Skinny Tie Belt.

For a dressier look you can pair the faux fur jacket over a dress for a night out!

For everyday casual I love this Courage statement t-shirt from Express you can pair with your comfy jeans.

I love finding fashion inspired by film moments. This “King of the Forest” outfit is from the Lion’s moment at the Emerald City in the Wizard of Oz where he wears a crown and cape.

The  dawn forest green ruffled mini dress by Moon River was perfect for my petite frame. The combination of the layers, ruffles and detail on the bodice makes this dress both feminine and modern with a nod to the past. The dark green color is stunning as well as the pattern. I paired the dress with a sheer green duster from Urban Outfitters that acted as my cape, a rhinestone mini headband crown by Jeanne Simmons, a vintage brooch like his courage badge and green velvet envelope clutch. I added carrying a yellow rose to tie in the yellow roses in the background in the scene.
