“In 1800s England, a well-meaning but selfish young woman meddles in the love lives of her friends.”
Jane Austen’s classic Emma has been readapted for the screen by Eleanor Catton with many comic moments. The costume designer Alexandra Byrne has taken bold choices with a bright and pastel color palette. The character, Emma wears traditional period looks with accessories that appeal to a modern-looking eye. Look for her necklaces and earrings that very much could be adapted to fit your wardrobe today.
I love the brilliant yellow color Emma wears in the film and on the poster. (Click here for a dress with a smiliar color.) However, I went with a more softer yellow floral ruffle dress with an adjustable tie halter neckline and flapped bust. I bought this dress new with tags on from a seller on Poshmark for just $10! The dress fits perfectly and is easy to put on with the conceacled back zip closure. It is also still being sold on Chicwish.

Ladurée Beverly Hills
Ladurée has a reputation for serving the best macaroons in a refined beautiful atmosphere all over the world. Now, you can experience plant-based French Cuisine at the Beverly Hills location by Matthew Kenney. Everything is vegan with clearly marked gluten-free options on the menu. Some of my favorites include the Isphan (rose-flavored soft macaroon biscuit with rose petal cream and raspberries), seasonal fresh fruit and Ladurée’s granola that tops a bed of yogurt.
The Beverly Hills location is unique for its entirely delicious vegan menu that does offer more substantial eating options. However, to enjoy the tea experience order the tea time menu available all day. You can also just order off the tea menu with a pastry or finger sandwiches.
You can visit the location at The Grove for more of a traditional menu.

Dress: Band of Gypsies Sunny Mauve Floral Print Ruffled Mini Dress. I found this dress at one of my favorite boutiques at a significantly reduced price. I had a fun time wearing my own floral romantic print and styled dress to Laduree’s. Alternative options: Lulus French Countryside Blush Floral Print Dress and Lulus in my Dreams Mauce Floral Print Midi Dress.
Book: My eye was drawn to this Harper Collin’s (Harper Perennial Deluxe Editions) pinkish book cover of Emma.
Dress: ASOS DESIGN puff sleeve mini dress with sash detail in ditsy floral. This dress is my modern updated twist on Emma’s styles. Emma and the other women wear dresses with higher waistlines, open necks, puff sleeves, and ruffles. I got this dress at 70% off for $25.50 and you can too! The size 0 fits perfectly with an open back tie detail, drape sash in the front, and a body-conscious fit. Below are some modern styles inspired by the romantic nature of the story and fashion. Below are gift suggestions for a fan of Jane Austen. Invite friends over for tea and host your own tea party complete with mini floral cakes and floral teacups. Take time to write down a thought for the day or a postcard to someone you want to know better. Please see my previous post on card making inspired by the movie Emma.
If you love to see movies or series inspired by classic books then look out for the Call of the Wild (also out today February 21) and The Secret Garden (April 17). For Jane Austen fans go back and watch Sandition or watch the finale this Sunday, February 23rd at 9pm (PBS Masterpiece). Sandition is the mini series based on Jane Austen’s unpulished novel.
Have a wonderful weekend watching Emma. and sharing kindness!
