Celebrating Dance: National Dance Day 2020 and Dancing With The Stars Season 29

National Dance Day 2020

“National Dance Day is an annual celebration dedicated to dance, that encourages Americans of all ages to incorporate dance into their lives.”
You might recognize one of the day’s founders – American Dance Movement co-founder, Nigel Lythgoe from So You Think You Can Dance.

Segerstrom Center for The Arts is the official West Coast host of National Dance Day and have free virtual events to check out throughout the afternoon!
Saturday, Sept 19 1:00-3:30pm

The NDD Routine

This year’s routine was choreographed by Shannon Mather and features the Season 4 winners of World of Dance, MDC 3. Dance is a great way to get moving and stay healthy during these challenging times. The routine is meant to be inclusive and accessible for all (dancers and non-dancers of all ages and skill levels) so please translate the routine as necessary and have fun.

The track can be found on iTunes.

I love Dancing With The Stars and have watched every episode live or on replay! Each season highlights the celebrity and professional dancer’s partnerships and personalities as the competition progresses until one couple can claim the coveted mirror ball trophy. The show is known for taking its audience on a  journey week after week as the couples learn and perform a new dance style from the samba to the waltz. I have missed the themed dancing, the ballroom glitz, glam, and the heartwarming touches of a show that knows it’s audience well.

This season there are some new changes to the show creatively, including cast changes and precautionary measures to deliver a spectacular show in a COVID-19 time of entertainment. Creatively, Tyra Banks now serves as the show’s only host as well as executive producer. Tyra will bring her fierce fashion sense and her famous smize to help make things next level!

Returning to the ballroom as a judge this year is Derek Hough. DWTS fans know Derek for winning the show impressively six times as a professional dancer. Derek has also just come off judging Season 4 of World of Dance. We can expect Derek’s expertise as a pro dancer for 17 seasons combined with his judging experience to add some freshness and excitement to the show sharing the table with veteran judges Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Toniolo. Former head judge, Len Goodman might pop in with some on-screen appearances from London as the show progresses.

Dancing with the Stars Season 29 premiered live on Monday night, September 14th on ABC 8 pm PDT.
Tune in this Tuesday for week 2 to see the couples do a new dance style like a cha cha cha or foxtrot.
Watch the replay of dances on the DWTS YouTube Channel, ABC.com or App, or Hulu.

Favorite Dances

I will miss seeing two of my favorite DWTS pro dancers Lindsay Arnold and Witney Carson who are both sitting it out this season since they are both expecting. Since we are missing professional Lindsay and the spectacular group numbers by Mandy Moore this season here are two of my favorite dance numbers.
