Sale Notifications and How to Find Items

ShopStyle

ShopStyle is a fashion and lifestyle shopping platform (website and app) to search, explore, save and find items that complement your style. I enjoy using the sale notification feature where I can heart an item (saving it my favorites for future reference) and set a sale alert to notify me when the item I like goes on sale.

You can also save searches with your set filters and items will be added when a new search result becomes available. If you are looking for a particular brand’s dress you can set and save (+Save button) the search result to notify you when your size, in a specific color, with a 70% off discount or more is available.

Shopstyle partners with numerous popular brands and stores making it easy to find items from Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, Saks Fifth Avenue, Saks off 5th, Neiman Marcus, Last Call, Bloomingdales, Macy’s, Ann Taylor, LOFT, Topshop, Revolve and Francesca’s to name a few of my favorites. Oddly, as of February 2019 White House Black Market is not an option.

There is a chance that ShopStyle may be wrong where they will show you that your size is available only for you to go the seller’s website to find out it is not.  Perhaps this is because ShopStyle has not been updated to reflect an item being sold out.  I have also the opposite happen where ShopStyle has listed as item being sold out when I could still buy the item off the website. Therefore, enjoy using ShopStyle but don’t get discouraged if items are not available.

Lyst

Lyst is a fashion eCommerce platform that offers a personalized marketplace where users can create their own unique shopping experience by finding and saving items to learn about sales.

“Founded in 2010 by Chris Morton and Sebastjan Trepca, the London-based company provides customers with access to over 11,500 of the world’s leading design houses and online stores, and the ability to shop via a single check-out.”

The search results seem to work very much like ShopStyle where you can use the detailed filters to find exactly what you want, save the item or search and get notified of a price drop or when items come back in stock.

One of my favorite features is the price check feature that will tell you how often an item was last checked for price (ex. 15 minutes ago) which makes Lyst seem the most accurate in their search results. Save the item by clicking on “track price drops” and also explore their helpful feature to view where an item is also available and similar products. Another one of my favorite features of Lyst is the ability to click on “visually similar” to display related options and styles that I have never new existed.

You can use the search results to find items you want but in order to use the save feature for notifications of price drops you will need to set up a free account. Lyst’s feature that will alert you immediately if an item comes back in stock is item based and not size based.

“Lyst works much like an online shopping mall where you can browse and purchase from a variety of global retailers. Please select your country and currency by using the drop down list on the top right-hand side of Lyst.com. This will display your country as well as the currency you will be paying in.”

Some of the major retailers that they partner with are

  • Neiman Marcus
  • Shopbop
  • Bergdorf Goodman
  • Zappos
  • Nordstrom Rack
  • ASOS
  • Last Call
  • Saks Off Fifth
  • Saks Fifth Avenue
  • Macy’s
  • Bloomingdale’s
  • Anthropologie
  • Lord & Taylor
  • Free People
  • Michael Kors
  • Forever 21

If Lyst provides inaccurate pricing information or in stock notices it is often because items were on sale at the retailer’s website for a certain promotional time or that the item was so popular it already sold out. There are discrepancies but be patient and trust the actual retailer’s site price.

ModeSens

ModeSens is a digital shopping assistant (website, app, and browser extension) for the smart and informed that took over what was known as Polyvore. “The luxury shopping experience for the style-informed.”

Established in 2015, ModeSens is led by a team of industry experts who developed a solution to the disconnected and crowded online shopping experience. ModSens consolidates product information giving you information about pricing and sales through notifications and searches. All sale transactions happen on their partner websites.

Some of the ModeSens’ features I appreciate is that they will list the original price of the item at the top of their page. This can be helpful for sellers on Poshmark and Ebay in listing accurate information for items that may no longer be for sale in stores. The original price will also help a buyer understand how big of a savings they can have. Another feature I appreciate is ModeSens will list when the item was first seen with the month and the year. This information can help the buyer make an informed decision on how current merchandise is.

One of the potential downsides of ModeSens is that they have you signup for an account in order to view the current pricing information for their search results.

Just like ShopStyle and Lyst a user can stay up to date on product availability and pricing by setting alerts favorite items for sale notifications etc.

Shoptagr

SHOP NOW. BUY WHEN READY.

Shoptagr is another online fashion shopping tool (broweser extension and app) known for their browser extension and their “save it for later service.” Search you favorite websites for items you love and add them to a Shoptagr list to be notified of a price drop.

Unlike Shopystyle, Lyst and Modsens the search for the perfect dress doesn’t start with Shoptagr’s shop or search feature because they do not yield specific results. Shoptagr’s strength comes from the ability to go to your favorite retailer’s site, find the item you want and set a notification for that item only. Instead of being given extra information you will be able to zero in on that one item you want.

Enable the Shoptagr Share Extension to save your favorite items from Safari etc after downloading the app. I find this particular app useful for items on retailer sites that are not partners found on Lyst, Shopstyle etc. For instance, when I cannot find White House Black Market through Shopystyle or Lyst I can go directly to the WHBM website, find the item I like to monitor and click the share it button on my iphone and the Shoptagr icon for it to be added to Shoptagr to monitor.

To see a list of their supported stores please click here. Some of the stores that are my favorites that might not be available through the other search and save websites include

  • Storets
  • Chicwish
  • 6pm
  • Bed Bath & Beyond
  • BNKR

CHICMI

Chicmi (website and app) keeps you updated with all of the fashion events in your city, from sample sales to fashion exhibitions and more. The city you want to explore is Los Angeles with sample sales, online sales and brands.

A simple signup process for a free account will keep track of the brands you like and when they have major sales. Some of the brands that I like to follow are Adelyn Rae, Aldo, Alex and Ani, Alice + Olivia, Amazon, Ann Taylor, Anthropologie, ASTR The Label, ASOS, BaubleBar, BB Dakota, etc. Once you follow a brand it will show you where you can shop that brand online and if there is a discount offered there and you will be notified when new events are added featuring this brand.

Another great feature is to find out when sample sales are with previous shoppers leaving comments on what their experience was for the public to shop. Sample Sales can be a way that a company gets rid of merchandise in warehouses that are in excess or were never made in mass to sell. Prices can be cut considerably and I appreciate how ChicMi will give you the basic when, where, and what.  For some sample sales ChiMi will send you emails with pictures and pricing of what is to be expected.

Pinterest

Pinterest is a visual discovery engine for finding fashion and style. It is also an online organizing saving tool where users can create both public and secret boards to save all their ideas and sparks of inspiration.

Pinterest has been a great tool to use for me to keep track of items I already own, items that I am inspired by and items that I might want to purchase in the future. If you visually see something you like online or in person, upload or pin the idea to a board for later. Online pins conveniently link back to the retailer’s or original source’s website.

I also like to collaborate with other on Pinterest on a specific board so you both can add pins and share ideas.

When planning an event or when I am in need of ideas the search function is very helpful to bring up suggestions for a recipe, table setting or style choice.

Some Pinterest search results will yield shoppable products with a shopping tag icon that links directly to a retailer’s checkout page for easy discovery to buying process. They items should update daily with the latest pricing and whether the item is in stock. If you are using the app search for an item like a “wrap dress” and at the top a couple of options to buy will appear and a shop more button which will lead to more buyable options related to the initial search result.

Pinterest has been developing newer and better features. Look out for the ability to find more in-stock items inspired by the original pin in a pinterest section dedicated to shopping recommendations. Another newer feature is Pinterest Lens where you can snap a photo or upload a photo to find similar reccomendations.
